A young farmer set a world best for cream tea eating at last week’s Royal Cornwall Show.
One member from each of the 20 clubs affiliated with the Cornwall Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs attempted to eat as many jam and cream scones as possible in two minutes.
Richie Blake representing St Columb Young Farmers Club eventually came out on top managing to eat his way through five scones, jam first of course, within the allotted time frame.
He came into his own in a tense final round where he polished off a further three scones in one minute.
The clotted cream for the record attempt was donated by Rodda’s, the strawberry jam from Boddington’s Berries and the scones were created by Warrens Bakery.
The challenge provided opportunity to raise awareness of the youth organisation’s work and actively encourage more young people in Cornwall to join the 800 current members.
