Callington’s Country Market is all set to celebrate its 45th anniversary - and stall holders are inviting everyone to a special market event on Wednesday.

This weekly event, which takes place in the Scout HQ in New Road every Wednesday from 8.45am - 12 noon, is described as a hidden gem in the middle of town by those in the know.

Produce available includes locally reared meat, free range eggs, breads, cakes and pastries as well as vegetables, cheeses, preserves and pickles.

Freshly cut-flowers and plants are also on offer as well as an array of arts and crafts including original paintings, greetings cards, knitwear, toys and hats, jewellery, glassware, bookmarks, embellished pens, lampshades and other inventive up-cycled items.

The Country Market network was started by the Women’s Institute in 1919 as a not-for-profit cooperative. Members severed their ties with the WI in 1995 and became Country Markets Ltd, but the ethos remains exactly the same.

To mark the Callington Country Market’s 45th birthday there’ll be a special market event, with a one-off cafe selling teas and coffees, a colouring competition for adults and children to be judged by a local artist, and (weather permitting) a gazebo outside showcasing examples of the variety of crafts and produce available in the hall.
