scares off attackers

POLICE are appealing for information after a Saltash woman was indecently assaulted on the outskirts of Trematon on Sunday evening while she was walking her dog home.

After feeding her horses, the woman was attacked from behind by a group of men at around 6 30pm. She was then dragged across the road and taken into a field, where she was assaulted.

The attackers made off when a call was received on the woman's mobile phone.

A nearby male jogger managed to located the woman and contacted the police.

Improvements to

rural rail services

RAILWAYS Minister, David Jamieson MP is to visit the Plymouth - Gunnislake Tamar Valley Line today, to mark a £600,000 investment in improving branch line stations and train services this year.

All four rural stations on the line, Bere Ferrers, Bere Alston, Calstock and Gunnislake, have seen major improvements this year, thanks to a £276,000 partnership led by Cornwall County Council and including Devon County Council, other local bodies, the Strategic Rail Authority and the Countryside Agency.

At the end of September, a separate £300,000 partnership saw the restoration of all year round Sunday train services, after a forty year break.

Richard is recycling

officer of the year

CORNWALL County Council's recycling education officer, Richard Bower has been named recycling officer of the year.

Mr Bower from Lostwithiel was awarded the title at an annual local authority conference in Harrogate after he was nominated for his innovative approach to the subject.

Mr Bower's previous projects have included a 'wash and squash' campaign, which involved recycling plastic milk bottles and a very effective project involving turning old yellow pages directories into animal bedding.

Cheque for New York

REPRESENTATIVES from the Cornwall county fire brigade visited the American embassy in London this week, to present a cheque for £42,300 raised by the people of the county for the New York disaster fund. Donations from all walks of life have help raise the money in just a few weeks and the cheque was the second largest donation from this country.

Eden Project on TV

THE BBC TV science programme, 'Tomorrow's World', came live from Cornwall's Eden project this week.

The show featured Dr Rebecca Ledger of Brunel University, who has devised a test for the RSPCA, to match a dogs temperament with a prospective owner. Eden also featured on last week's 'This is Your Life' with creator, Tim Smit in the spotlight.
