Arrests follow

Looe fight

A VIOLENT fight in a Looe pub during the early hours of yesterday morning led to 12 people being taken into police custody, and a number of injuries.

The disorder broke out in the Double Decker pub, in Higher Market Street, at 1.30am. Glasses, pool cues and bottles were said to have been used during the incident, which apparently left one woman with a severe laceration. Police say that around ten to 15 people received injuries, and an ambulance was called.

As a result of the fracas enquiries led to the arrest of a number of people in a nearby house. A police spokesman said that the 12 taken into custody were being interviewed at Charles Cross police station yesterday. Reportedly a large amount of damage was caused to the Double Decker during the fight.

Those able to give police information on the incident should telephone the police on 08705 777 555 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting log number 60 of November l.

Optimism about

market's future

the next step towards progressing future plans for Liskeard market will be collating information from the public consultation.

The consultation took place during the Action for Market Towns Convention, held in Liskeard earlier this autumn. Jerry Masters, Caradon's construction and property manager, has told members of the Liskeard Chamber of Commerce that after the information has been collated the funding will be sought.

The Chamber members were optimistic that the livestock market would remain in some form, following the lifting of foot and mouth restrictions - hopefully early next year.

It was suggested that the Chamber would like to study the plans at a future meeting, and put further ideas forward.

Speaking of the Convention Jane Pascoe, a steering committee member, said the delegates had made very favourable comments about the town, and in particular the friendly and helpful nature of the local community.

Star surfer

appears on TV

TOP Newquay surfer, Russell Winter, made an appearance on TV last weekend on BBC TV's sports-quiz show 'They Think It's All over.'

Russell, one of the best surfers in Europe, was part of the programme's 'Feel the Sportsman' segment, when David Gower and Jonathan Ross had to guess who he was - by touch alone.

Life was made even harder for Russell, as he had to tackle a rolling surfing simulator while the game was going on.
