Call for a

clean up

THE need for more litter bins in Saltash, and heavier fines for those who do not clear up after their dogs, were stressed at this month's Saltash town council meeting.

Debbie Partridge had left a letter and photographs for town councillors to discuss. She wrote that the town should not 'tolerate the filth any longer'.

She was supported by Eric Lewis, who said the litter, and dogs' mess, could be spotted throughout Saltash. It was felt by many, however, that magistrates should enforce the laws designed to prevent dog owners letting their animals mess, without clearing up after them.

Baz Gregory said new laminated posters had been issued, highlighting the problem, and added that Caradon had two dog wardens. He said the problem was down to irresponsible owners.

Sue Hooper suggested getting Caradon's environmental services department to clean up the areas mentioned by Councillor Partridge. Councillors agreed to send her letter, and photographs, to Caradon.
