Liskeard show
is cancelled
IT has been confirmed the foot and mouth outbreak has caused the cancellation of the Liskeard Show, due to be held at Merrymeet on July 14.
Show secretary, Alison Melhuish, said council members felt this the responsible thing to do, as it would not be a 'proper agricultural show' without cattle and sheep, and it would have been held on farm land. This is not the first time the event has been abandoned because of foot and mouth, as it was called off in l952 for the same reason.
20mph zone
for town streets
A 20mph zone taking in 33 roads is due to be introduced in Torpoint.
The speed limit would be placed on Goad Avenue and Trevithick Avenue and the residential roads leading off them through a plan being put forward by Cornwall County Council.
Such zones have been introduced in other areas in an attempt to make streets safer for pedestrians.
Maps showing the roads affected in Torpoint can be seen at Caradon District Council's headquarters at Luxstowe House in Liskeard and more information about the scheme can be obtained from the county council on 01872 222000 extension 7320. Objections and other comments should be made to the council before April 12.
