New bridge lanes
are joined together
THE Tamar Bridge new cantilever sections were joined together this week, after months of work.
On Tuesday the new northern lane - an integral part of the widening project - met in the middle, while yesterday, around 3pm the two halves of the southern section met.
Drivers could be using these new cantilevered lanes, which will now be surfaced, by the middle of January. The scheme for the bridge, built in l961 and now taking 40,000 vehicles per day, will eventually cost £23.5 million.
Subsidy for
pricked eggs
TOWN councillors in Liskeard have agreed to provide a £5 subsidy to residents within a certain area who call in experts to have seagull eggs on their properties 'pricked'.
The council has been told the cost to householders would be £30, £21.50 and £10.50 depending on the size of building. David Rowe said he felt it a 'pointless exercise', while deputy mayor Tony Powell said he was convinced 'egg pricking makes no difference whatsoever.'
Now it's Craig
the crooner
THE BBC's Craig Rich, was a star turn at the Looe Lions buffet/social evening at the Hannafore Point Hotel on Children In Need night, when he was sponsored to the tune of £100 to sing. He happily obliged with "Love Me Tender".
Craig also conducted an auction for Pudsy Bear's jumper and together with a collection from those present more than £700 was raised.
The Lions had arranged the evening to present a large cheque amounting to £5,000 for the Cavitron Fund for equipment at Derriford Hospital, and then realised it was also Children in Need on the same date, so decided to do their best to raise some extra funds during what turned out to be a fun and enjoyable event.
