Monkey business for
metal detectors...
IF there's anyone out there with a metal detector who can spare an hour or two over the weekend - then there's monkey business for you to do.
The Monkey Sanctuary trust at Murrayton, Looe, has built a new enclosure but before their woolly monkeys can use it the ground needs to be searched for any staples or nails which could injure the new tenants. Metal detectors will be just the thing to do this, so if anyone can help this weekend or next weekend, please pop along to the sanctuary. For more information ring Alice, Alex or Lucy on 01503 262532
Scope withdraws
cash for centre
A FIGHT is looming to save the Churchtown Outdoor Adventure Centre at Lanlivery after the national charity, Scope, decided to cease funding the centre - known throughout the world for the facilities it offers disabled people. Scope said Churchtown no longer fits in with its long-term objectives and aims. However, centre director David Owens has said staff and management will be striving to secure the £150,000 a year it needs to keep open. If this does not occur it would have to close on March 31 next year.
Christmas offer
from Trago
TRAGO Mills is offering local organisations, choirs and music groups the opportunity to do a run through or an excerpt from any Christmas show they will be putting on over the festive period
The store will be setting up a small dome in the car park for a Christmas festival from November 25 to December 23. Anyone who wants to book space for a morning or afternoon in the Trago Dome should contact Justin in DIY on Extension 249 or Melanie in the service centre on extension 233.
What they do in the Dome is up to them - it can be a choir or carol performance, a dress rehearsal for a pantomime or a festive play. 'As long as it's Christmassy', says Justin.
Kestrel blown off
course from Finland
A WORN-out kestrel, which had flown to Cornwall from Finland, has been discovered in a garden in St Blazey. The kestrel, which is now recovering at the Screech Owl Sanctuary, Indian Queens, had a metal tag around its leg which denoted it had been released by Helsinki University. A spokeswoman for the sanctuary said the bird had probably been seeking somewhere warmer, and had been blown off course.
