Bogus phone calls

lead to thefts

BUSINESSES in South East Cornwall are being told by the police to beware of bogus telephone calls purported to be from the Post Office or AT and T survey technicians.

Acting on the information received, private homes have consequently been burgled, and telephone lines have been tapped into, landing the owners with large bills for calls they did not make.

Kathleen lands

a whopper!

THE crew of Polperro based trawler 'Kathleen', got more than they bargained for when they went fishing out from Brixham on Thursday.

Skipper Scott Govier and crew Tristan Greville, part of a pair trawling team with David Cowan of the Casadora, hauled in his nets to discover a huge Thresher shark, which weighed in at between 400 and 500 lbs. The Thresher was the biggest landed at Brixham this year and was sold on the fish market for £230. Auctioneer Barry Young said there is a local market for shark which is sold for steaks and sharksfin soup.

Saltmill opening

is called off

Bad weather has caused the postponement of the opening of the Saltmill Millennium Project in Saltash.

After an inspection of the site it was decided that the event, due for this Sunday, would have to be called off because the ground was too boggy to take emergency vehicles. The gala event will be staged some time later this year.

School bus

involved in collision

A collision between a school bus and two cars occurred on Thursday morning on the B3359 at Woodlay near Herodsfoot.

The emergency services were called to the scene at 8am. There were three casualties with severe lacerations and chest pains. Two ambulances attended and took one person to Derriford Hospital

None of the school children were injured. They changed buses and continued on their journey.

Estate rolls at

Island Shop

A CAR overturned at Island Shop, the slip road into Liskeard on Wednesday evening.

The green, L registration, Range Rover Estate rolled where there was flooding on the road. The emergency services were called to the scene at just before 5.30pm.

The 27-year-old female driver was unconscious and suffered cuts and bruises. She was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital. The stretch of road was clear by 6.18pm.

At the County Gig Championships at Newquay last weekend, the Saltash based rowers, already World Champions, crossed the line to win for the sixth successive year, smashing Newquay's own record of five repeated wins.
