Designer watches
taken in £20,000 raid
A BREAK IN at a Polperro jewellers during the early hours of Monday morning resulted in the theft of 1,500 designer watches worth £20,000.
The first that Mr Matthew Lovelock, proprietor of Time Piece jewellers, knew of the raid was at 8.30am on Monday morning, when he was alerted by a neighbouring trader.
Mr Lovelock said: 'It was obviously a professional break in - they went straight for what they wanted and very carefully and systematically boxed up the watches, without leaving any signs of wanton damage or vandalism.
'These are very distinctive watches and are only available from a few outlets in the country,'
Watches including the following makes were stolen: Kangol, Kicker, Pod, Pepsi, Raleigh, Sega, Mizz, Citroen and Phillip Mercer. DC Matthews of Liskeard CID is appealing to anyone who may be offered watches of the above makes to contact either Liskeard CID on 0990 777 444 or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

Keeping Cornish
pasties in county
A CAMPAIGN to ensure that all pasties described as being 'Cornish' are actually made in Cornwall, is being launched next week.
If successful the campaign will ensure that 'out of county' manufacturers would be forbidden to describe their pasty products as Cornish. The case has first to be made to the UK government before it progresses to Europe - and in the meantime anyone with a unique insight into any aspect of the history of Cornish pasty-making is asked to send information to the Pasty Project, Trading Standards, Old County Hall, Truro TR1 3AY.
Man follows
young girl
POLICE are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a man following an eight-year-old girl in the Dobwalls area.
The man, who followed the girl on more than one occasion in April, is described as white, 5'7, with short, scruffy black hair. He is of medium to large build and walks with a stoop. He has a distinctive coloured tattoo on his face, of either a dragon or a snake, and at the time of the incidents was wearing army camouflage trousers and a black jacket. Anyone with information should either phone PC Mantle at Liskeard Police Station, or the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
Village protest
halts the traffic
TRAFFIC was brought to a halt on the A38 through Dobwalls on Saturday - by villagers campaigning for a by-pass. Around 20 residents caused the hold-up by continuously using the pedestrian crossing in the middle of Dobwalls, an action which police eventually curtailed. The next protest is due to be held on July 8.
