Danger warning for children

Children are being warned not to go near any yellow cone shaped objects which they may find lying on the ground as they could be highly dangerous detonators which have been stolen from Railtrack.

There is a fear that so soon after Guy Fawkes night youngsters may think they are used fireworks.

Liskeard police have been contacting schools with a description of the detonators, which are about 5cms across and have the word explosive written on them. They are seriously worried about them falling into the hands of children and are urging anyone who finds them to leave them alone and to contact the police immediately.

The detonators, used by Railtrack as warning devices, were stolen from one of their vans parked at Merrymeet, near Liskeard, and broken into overnight between November 4-5. It is not known how many were taken, and one has been found on the roadside at Merrrymeet.

Anyone with information should contact Liskeard Police on 0990 777444.
