Endurance runner, adventurer and author Nick Butter will set out from Cornwall’s Eden project on Saturday as he attempts to run 200 marathons in 100 days around the coast of Britain.
Nick became the first person to run a marathon in each of the world’s 196 countries in 2019. If he succeeds in the Run Britain challenge, he will become the first person to run 100 double marathons back to back.
Sticking as close to the coastline as possible along marked footpaths and roads, Nick expects to be running for around 14 hours each day.
At the heart of the challenge is Nick Butters’ non-profit ’The 196 Foundation’.
The 196 Foundation aims to support pockets of need all over the world by asking for donations of £1.96 per month. This money is collected and used to support one cause per year. This could be something huge like building a school, or it could be supporting a family that need a wheel chair or special needs support.
The 196 Foundation operates as a democratic donorship whereby every donor has the opportunity to vote on the cause that’s supported each year. More information at www.the196foundation.com
Members of the public can run with and support Nick along his route. A basic form is available on the website and people are encouraged to register interest to run with Nick so his team can support the meet up. Meet up locations will be posted online ahead of the launch.
Nick will also be carrying a live tracker so supporters can join him en route. The real time tracker will be live as of April 17th at 06:00 on Nick’s website. www.nickbutter.com/runbritain.
