Polyne Garage sponsored Tideford overcame a lively Lostwithiel side to reach the quarter finals of the Cornwall Sunday Cup in an entertaining match at Tideford.

During an exciting and spirited first half both sides created chances with Tideford gradually getting the upper hand and carving out more openings. The visiting keeper Adam Sanderson was forced to make excellent saves in quick succession from Mark Bates, Ian Taylor and Jamie Baggot. Tideford then took a deserved lead with a goal from Colin Patton and went further ahead when Carlos Norville beat three players to set up an easy opportunity for Jamie Baggot to score.

Immediately after the interval Lostwithiel reduced the deficit through an excellent headed goal from Stuart Harris following good work on the right hand side At this stage the game could have gone either way. The home side then restored their two goal lead with an excellent individual goal from Colin Patton with the home supporters screaming at him to lay the ball off. Lostwithiel then fought back once more and reduced the lead with an opportunist goal from Andrew 'Gus' Honey to make the score 3-2.

It was at this stage that Tideford started making the most of the numerous chances that they had created with two more goals from Carlos Norville and a penalty from Mark Bates completed the scoring after substitute Ali Watkins had been unceremoniously brought down in the penalty area. Despite the heavy and greasy conditions it was an excellent game to watch and was very well controlled by the referee who kept the game flowing.
