Saltash started strongly, forcing a succession of corners in the opening minutes. Launceston showed the Ashes that things weren't going to go all their own way, but they lacked the necessary strike power to score goals.

In the 22nd minute Mat Latham worked his way down the right wing for Saltash but his final shot went wide. However it was his hard work that made the Ashes first goal, his cross found Lee Burns who opened the scoring. Launceston were awarded a series of corners towards the end of the first half but their finishing lacked direction.

Launceston tried hard to create chances at the start of the second half but once again it was the finishing touch that let them down. Saltash scored again in the 64th minute when Mike Southgate headed into an empty net following mistakes in the Launceston defence. Five minutes later Mat Penry made it 0—3 following up his first shot which had rebounded off the Launceston keeper. Launceston tried to get back into the game but once again they failed to capitalise on a serie~ of corners.
