CORNISH singers have come together on Zoom to get ready for making a festive film.

The first of three rehearsals took place online on Monday – and its not too late to join them if you fancy it, says editor Kate McPherson.

The sessions are being led by Cornish Bard Rosie Fierek, and while they’ve been planned for several months, Kate says it’s coincided well with the month-long lockdown that’s just begun.

"In the absence of physical gatherings, the workshops are a great way to feel connected to other people,” she said.

“It can be a lonely time, so it’s lovely to be able to help with a fun community project."

The workshops are based around singing in the Cornish language, and the overall aim is to create a festive video - which will be released in December. Participants will film themselves singing one of the three harmonies from their own homes, and the videos will be edited together to create a showcase of Kana Kelyn Kelyn O - A Cornish Christmas song, collected from Callington in 1924.

Kate added: "The first workshop was a real success. We had 37 singers, and despite the limitations posed by digital connection we all had lots of fun, and made a great noise!"

The rehearsals are open to residents from across Cornwall - and beyond, and the project is being funded by Liskeard Town Council, FEAST, and Arts Council England.
