Ashes' month without a game didn't show as they turned in a competent display against league rivals Bude.
Lee Wakehams sweeping cross field ball out of defence picked out Darren Butcher on the left and his accurate cross from the byline was headed in by Greg Baldry at the far post. Midway through the first half wing back Matthew Soole evaded three tackles on a persistent forward run before the ball was taken up by Darren Butcher who shot underneath the diving body of Bude keeper Darren Johns for Ashes' second goal.
The Bude forwards were kept subdued by good displays in the heart of the home defence by Dave Crocker, Ryan Swiggs and Steve Anbany, a formation that has leaked only two goals in seven games.
Bude played with more purpose in the second half and play was evenly contested. Bude should have pulled a goal back when Bousella sped down the right but his cross was thumped high over the Ashes' crossbar by Lee Galon.
With 10 minutes remaining Darren Butcher scored two goals in as many minutes to seal a deserved hat-trick. The first a chance created by himself out of nothing, and the second a superb chip over 'keeper John's rounding off a four-man Ashes movement upfield.
