Saltash took the game to Liskeard in the first half and looked the more likely to find the net. Ashes' strikers Darren Butcher and Gregg Baldry were a handful as first Butcher and then Lee Grogan brought excellent saves out of Liskeard 'keeper Paul Lowden. In contrast, Chris Stacey at the other wasn't troubles in the first half with only a long range effort from Neil Mullis which sailed over the Ashes crossbar.

Liskeard improved in the second half with Paul Webber pulling the strings in midfield along with Mullis. Liskeard were menacing down the flanks as pressure was applied and Stacey saved well from Webber. The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute with Barrett feeding a ball to Lee Maddock who made space inside the box to beat Chris Stacey. Lowden made an important save to block Baldry's shot at the other end, but the all important victory went to Liskeard to keep them in contention among the leaders.
