There are no easy matches in an extremely competitive ECPL, as leaders Liskeard experienced to their discomfort at lowly Probus on Saturday. "I expected a tough game", said Blues joint manager Martin Hodge. "All credit to Probus.
They needed the points in their own way as much as we did and although we pressed in the second half it proved one of those days when it just wouldn't run for us in front of goal".
With Paul Webber returning from Callington and included in their line-up, Liskeard took the lead after 20 minutes when Steve West converted a penalty. But 15 minutes later Martin Luscombe equalised and in a second half attack he struck the Blues' post.
Overall though, Liskeard just could not turn their second half pressure into goals and try though they might, Probus goalkeeper Dave Ellis produced an inspired performance, despite a knee injury, saving time and time again.
With St Dennis winning just two points separates the leading the leading pair although Saints do have the advantage of two matches in hand. "There are still many points to play for and with the top sides having some hard games to negotiate anything can happen," said Hodge, whose side is also involved in the League Cup.
On Saturday 1st April they entertain Wadebridge in a League Cup Semi-final and victory here would put them into the Easter Sunday showpiece.
