MORE than 240 artists, designers and makers are set to share their studio spaces, their stories and their work in a celebration of Cornwall’s creative practice.
Open Studios will see painters, printmakers, potters, textile makers and jewellers from Marazion to St Minver open their doors to the public in a safe and socially distanced way between this Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, September 6.
The Open Studios Cornwall website will be enhanced this year with video tours and additional digital content by participants who are not able to welcome the public in person for reasons of limited space or personal vulnerability.
The annual artistic trail encourages visitors to discover, discuss and purchase work by Cornwall’s many creative professionals.
And their studios in converted chapels and country cottages, shipyards and salt cellars, historic harbours – and even a horsebox are a delight to visit in themsleves.
It’s the 16th year of Open Studios, and in 2020, there are clear themes of environmentalism and wellbeing, recycling and repurposing.
‘Whether you are drawn to saturated colour or atmospheric monochromes, modern processes or ancient traditions, the seen or the unseen, Open Studios Cornwall opens our eyes to other worlds, both physically and mentally,’ says project co-ordinator, Karen Raymond. ‘Supporting and investing in Cornwall’s creative community not only provides artists, designers and makers with a vital lifeline but also enables us to focus on the positive power of creativity in these challenging times.’
