Premier Division
Liskeard Ath 1
Bodmin Tn 2
The Blues were expected to be cannon fodder for the reigning champions – but that could not have been further from the truth.
Leigh Cooper's side more than matched a side that would create a four-point gap at the top of the Premier Division if they win their games in hand.
'I'm going home disappointed that the lads did not get something out of the game; this was not a case of Bodmin not getting out of first gear... it was a case of us playing well,' admitted the Blues boss.
'We felt we were always in the game and their manager confirmed that he thought we were worth a point.'
His frustration was borne out of the fact that Bodmin were struggling to make any headway against his side who worked themselves to a standstill for their cause.
Home supporters could be forgiven for thinking the worse when Bodmin, somewhat against the run-of-play, took the lead on the half-hour.
Karl Turner found himself in space on the left flank and swung the ball over to the far post, where Luke Hodge headed it back across the face of goal for Danny O'Hagan to tap home.
Instead of caving in, though, Liskeard came at their visitors and were deservedly level inside five minutes as Reece Small's left-wing cross found Neal Kinsman 12 yards out to finish low into corner of Kevin Miller's goal.
Both teams went looking for the winner – and it was the club at the top of the table who had the luck as a long throw-in found O'Hagan heading home from close-range.
Perhaps the final word should go to Bodmin player-manager Darren Gilbert, who was honest when he said: 'Both sides rode their luck a little bit and, to be fair to Liskeard, they probably deserved to get something out of the game.'
