The Blues can count themselves unfortunate not to have secured at least a replay from this tie against the current Westinsure Senior Cup holders at Lux Park.
Leigh Cooper's team took all the second-half honours except for putting the ball in the back of the net – and that, in the end, was what cost them.
'We said before the game that we needed to stand up and be counted, and the lads certainly did that,' admitted Cooper.
'We conceded a poor goal in the third minute, but the lads deserve credit for coming back, and in the second half we were the better side, but we just lacked that cutting edge in the finishing department.
'When St Austell's second goal went in, I turned to Tony (Richardson) and said that the lads really didn't deserve that. There is no way there was two goals difference between the sides, and St Austell couldn't have complained if we had taken them to a replay,'
Liskeard were rocked after just three minutes when Will Tinsley gave the Lilywhites the perfect start, but the home side had an opportunity to draw level on 26 minutes.
