A plan to build 13 two-bedroomed flats and 16 garages to include a new vehicular and pedestrian access to the highway adjacent to Goonwartha Road, West Looe, was being recommended for approval by Caradon's planning officers at a meeting of Planning West on Thursday. The controversial plan, to be incorporated in a six- storey building has attracted ten responses from neighbours, all objecting, and Looe town council has stated it would like a site meeting to be called. They have similar concerns as residents in the area, which include environmental issues, privacy, traffic problems and lack of amenity areas. However, officers state that although the building will clearly have an impact upon the Goonwartha Street scene, the current proposal has evolved over a period of time and they are of the view that the plan now proposed is not of unreasonable scale or design, having regard to the existing development in the road. All other material details have been considered and although mindful of the objections of local residents they do not consider that any of the issues raised could reasonably justify a recommendation of refusal.
