LOCALS and visitors are being encouraged to capture images of Looe’s land and sea to help the town’s appeal for a new lifeboat.

“Could your stunning photo of a ‘Seascape’ or ‘Looe at its best’ win a very generous first prize from Portbyhan Hotel?” asks Ian Foster of the local RNLI.

“This is the theme of our photographic competition, the winner of which will win dinner, bed and breakfast for two at the hotel.”

The top photograph will grace the front of a 2022 calendar for the RNLI, which will also feature 12 ‘runner up’ photographs.

A D class inshore lifeboat has served Looe since 1992, but next year, the current D Class Ollie Naismith will have reached the end of its operational life and needs to be replaced. The Looe Lifeboat Appeal aims to raise £78,000 to bring the Ollie Naismith II to the town.

“The theme for the photographic competition is ‘Seascapes’ or ‘Looe at its best’ and we are looking for stunning photographs, but it is really up to the author on how they interpret the theme,” says Ian.

The competition opens on Saturday (May 1) and will run until September 30 2021.

Competitors can make as many entries as they want: full rules, information and entry form can be found at www.looelifeboats.co.uk/photocomp.html

Ann Watson, chair of Looe RNLI management committee, said: “We know many of our supporters enjoy taking photographs and hope they will submit their favourite images to our competition - we are excited to see their endeavours.”
