More than £4,000 was raised in a week as the community in Liskeard rallies to support little Elodie Cullingford and her family.
Eighteen-week-old Elodie has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a rare condition which means she cannot move her legs or sit unaided.
Her parents Axie and Mike have been told that her condition will deteriorate as she grows and that she is not expected to survive past the age of two.
The couple are determined to take up any available treatment that could help their daughter – and the community is supporting their efforts, through the Elodie’s Story appeal, to make each day of her young life as happy and comfortable as possible.
As a ‘rainbow week’ of fundraising at the Morrisons Liskeard store came to a close, two staff members had their heads shaved and a third had his legs waxed in front of customers and colleagues.
More than £1,700 was collected in buckets placed at the tills.
Meanwhile, the town’s Royal British Legion branch was packed for a quiz night which raised £2,490.
Up to 120 people crammed around tables to stand a chance of winning one of a raft of prizes donated by local hotels, tourist attractions and businesses.
‘Both Mike and I have been really touched, and we both feel really grateful for all the support,’ said Axie.
Events for Elodie’s Story continue on October 28 with a ‘Pink ‘o’ Ween’ Halloween party at Liskeard Sports Club.
The family event will include fancy dress and a disco and proceeds will be split between Cancer Research UK, SMA UK and Elodie’s Story
