It's going to be business as usual for the annual Albaston Fete, this year on June 17, despite the fact that few volunteers have come forward to help with the organising.

Last December Mrs Ginny Jackett, a member of the fete committee, appealed for helpers, pointing out that the fete was facing a crisis.

Help was thin on the ground and it was feared that the event which has raised over £40,000 for local charities in the past 15 years would have to be cancelled.

But now those stalwarts who have organised the fete in previous years are determined to keep going for the millennium year event.

Although they would still like some assistance, they also need help in another way.

They want anyone who can sing, dance, play a musical instrument or entertain in some way, to volunteer to perform at the fete. It could be someone who is experienced in public performance, or someone who has never performed in public before. Everyone will be welcome, whatever their age.
