Liskeard/Looe having experienced scrummaging problems in their victory over Newquay, sought to rectify this in recent training sessions and were anxious to show in this match that it was only a temporary blip.

With a strong wind blowing in their favour St Austell put Liskeard under early pressure but stout defending by the home team ensured that St Austell were held up. Liskeard began to dominate with the forwards winning both loose and set ball pieces.

This was rewarded, when after a good threequarter move inspired by fly half Ball, an ensuing move led to Arnold scoring an excellent try which Burchell converted.

Midway through the first half Liskeard went further ahead when Arnold scored another try which Burchell again converted.

With the front row of Collins, Saunders and Harrison dominant and good back movement, including both wings, Liskeard scored further tries by Williams and Tamblyn to turn around at half time with a 26 points to nil lead.

In the second half Liskeard continued to dominate and won superb lineout ball thanks to Masters, Arnold and Austin and scrum half Jones, whilst providing good service to his backs, also made some good breaks from the set pieces.

The centres Hannah and Ferris frequently spun the ball wide, but both players also scored excellent tries, which Burchell converted.

This was an excellent team performance with the back row of Hill, Arnold and Williams in fine form.

The scrummaging problems appear to have been corrected and when Hooper and McCarthy came on as replacements the effectiveness was maintained.

The team has weathered an ongoing injury crisis with Rice, Gailer and Hooper all experiencing both serious and niggling injuries.

On a more sad and personal note Lyndon Corp has been advised to finish playing on medical grounds, due to a serious knee injury which will require a fourth operation.

We wish him well for the future, but look forward to his continued support as a spectator and member of the club.

The next fixture is away to Launceston Colts.
