THERE was a burst of colour and music in the woodland as the Friends of Stara Woods celebrated the opening of their new footbridge – in style!

Dressed up in their finery, everyone took a turn to walk, dance, or even belly dance across the new suspension bridge.

The bridge was deliberately designed to swing to make it fun to cross, said chair of Stara Woods Friends group Ann Hughes.

The bridge project was realised by the Friends with support from the Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project (CHAHP) and Heritage Lottery Funding.

Previously walkers had to take their chances using a large fallen chestnut tree to cross the River Lynher.

After the bridge opening, there was a party at Linkinhorne Parish Hall for the judging and eating of 'bridge cakes'. The celebrations continued into the evening with a ceilidh at the hall.
