A NEW amenity woodland has been planted at a college in order to improve the setting of the campus and the wildlife habitat. Students at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, with the help of Western Power Distribution and the Silvanus Trust, planted the trees last week, during National Tree Week. The 500 trees from Western Power Distribution that will be planted are part of the coursework for students in the foundation and life skills, countryside and agriculture departments. The group of students were assisted by Jez Ralph, the project officer at the Silvanus Trust. He said: 'It's exciting that the land managers of the future are planting the woods of the future, and good to see that Duchy College and Western Power Distribution are committed to forestry in Cornwall.' Students Alex Snowball, Matthew Stone and Daniel Gay, from the national diploma in countryside management course, are among those who will be helping to instruct the first year foundation students in tree planting techniques.
