Brenton Road in Downderry is to be closed to vehicles from March 13 to April 13 so that private stabilisation works can take place on the cliff above the road.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times. There will be pedestrian access on the seaward side, and St Nicholas School will be providing a walking bus from Seaton and back.

Jim Candy, Cornwall Councillor for Trelawny, said: ’Unfortunately the road has to be closed for safety reasons while the rock face is netted and pinned.

’This will cause some disruption and inconvenience as this is the only coastal road connecting Seaton and Downderry, and I would ask everyone to be patient and show consideration for other road users while these vital safety works take place.’

We’ll have more on this, and on alternative public transport arrangements, in the new print edition of the Cornish Times, on sale in the morning.
