PEOPLE across South East Cornwall joined in a nationwide campaign to spruce up Britain in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday over the weekend. ‘Clean for the Queen’ saw groups around the country joining forces on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 4, 5 and 6, to clean up litter. Liskeard pensioner Grace Northcott said that, living in such a beautiful part of the country, it makes her sad to see the amount of litter, so with her grab stick and recycled carrier bags in hand she collected rubbish around the Pengover area. Groups Individuals and groups such as the Liskeard Scouts, the WI and Liskeard School and Community College helped with cleaning up areas around the town. In Saltash, children of Bishop Cornish and St Stephen’s Schools cleaned up areas around their schools on Friday. On Saturday morning, a group of adults led by Saltash mayor Bill Phillips and deputy mayor Hilary Frank tidied up the area from the Waterside through Lower Fore Street, Ellwell Woods and North Road to Glebe Avenue.
