With the nights drawing in and Christmas just two weeks away, people around the country are getting their trees up and homes decorated before the big day. In South East Cornwall it’s no exception, and to combat the gloom of this year, more people than ever before seem to be getting their tree up early.

With this in mind, a new study from The Toy Shop has revealed the nation’s preferences when it comes to the age-old art of decking the halls…

• Psychologists support the notion that those who put their trees up earlier are happier -and 22% opted to crack the decorations out during November this year

• 69% of the UK choose an artificial tree, whereas 19% will opt for a real one

• 12% of Brits said they do not have a tree at all!

• While tinsel may have been declared ‘common’ by some, that didn’t stop 29% of people adorning their trees with the classic decoration

• 35% said that children are not allowed to help decorate the tree, and 14% admitted to redecorating the tree without them knowing

So, Cornish Times readers, have you got your tree up already – did you put it up in November? Or are you a traditionalist?

Do you go for artificial or real – and do you prefer a cut or a growing tree? Do you have to have a colour scheme or is it random?

And the all-important question: if you are a parent, do you let your kids loose decorating the tree or do you let them nowhere near the baubles?
