A DAY full of festive atmosphere and fun is promised in Callington on Saturday, December 2, as the town gets ready to switch on the lights.

The day begins with a Christmas Craft Fair in the Town Hall, for unique and handmade crafts and gifts. Visit the fair from 10am- 2pm.

Santa will then be doing some limbering up as the CHICKS Santa Fun Run is back in Callington again this year, starting at 3pm from the Bowling Club.

The event is being supported by Callington Rotary and local taxi firm Darren’s Cars.

Hundreds of adults and children and even a few four-legged friends will be walking, jogging, skipping or sprinting their way around the 1.5-mile route.

All the money raised from the event goes to provide free respite breaks for disadvantaged children. Entries can be made on the CHICKS website at www.chicks.org.uk, or pick up a form from the Town Hall – each entry includes a Santa suit and a medal.

At the Pannier Market from 4pm-7.30pm traders will be in costume for the very popular Victorian Market.

Browse the variety of art, craft and produce stalls and enjoy the entertainment laid on by local performers and groups.

Adding to the festive atmosphere there will be mulled wine, roast chestnuts and hot chocolate to enjoy.

At around 4.30pm, crowds will gather in St Mary’s Square for carol singing and the countdown to the lights; the big switch-on takes place at 5pm.

A Family Christmas Disco in the Town Hall from 5.30pm until 7.30pm will round off Callington’s day of festive fun.
