Saltash Ladies Choir is giving a concert at the Wesley Church tomorrow along with the Nelson Civic Ladies Choir from Lancashire. This will be their first visit to Saltash and, like the Saltash Ladies Choir, members are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. They all met at the Albert Hall last year, and were invited to come to Saltash to celebrate with a joint concert. Proceeds will be in aid of St Luke's Hospice, which is the choir's chosen charity this year. The Nelson Choir actually started as a children's choir, and Edward Parr joined as conductor in 1952. John Garrett is the present musical director. The ladies choir won first prize at Llangollen in 1980 and they have sung at the Montreaux Choral Festival in Switzerland on four occasions. They have also sung on radio and television. They will fly from Manchester to Plymouth and return on Monday. One ex-member is joining them from Holland for the Saltash visit. Saltash Ladies Choir was formed by the late Betty Pawley and has raised more than £10,300 for various charities since 2003. Linda Eastlake has been their musical director for 11 years and Eileen Hatch their accompanist. The compere at Saturday's concert will be cllr Joe Ellis.
