THE BBC’s Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge will pass through villages in South East Cornwall tomorrow (Saturday) on Day 2 of an epic 470-mile ride.
One Show presenters Alex Jones and Matt Baker will be accompanying six teenagers on the challenge which was set to leave Land’s End early this morning and arrive in Padstow later today (Friday).
Tomorrow’s route will see them follow the A30 across Bodmin Moor before turning off at Plusha onto the B3257 and heading through Congdon’s Shop. The team will travel through Coad’s Green, turning off at Bray Shop to take the back road towards Venterdon and Stoke Climsland.
The rickshaw riders will cross the River Tamar at Horsebridge and head for Lydford Gorge before finishing their second day in Okehampton.
The Rickshaw Challenge team will then work their way across England in an attempt to finish at Elstree Studios in time for the BBC’s Children in Need Appeal show on Friday, November 13.
All six of the teenagers taking part in the event have benefited from Children in Need-funded projects and they are hoping to secure another strong fundraising total this year; in the five years since it began, the Rickshaw Challenge has raised more than £7.9m to help disadvantaged young people all over the UK.
The riders and presenters are hoping that lots of people will come out and support them as they tackle tomorrow’s arduous route in East Cornwall.
‘It’s going to be tough but with your help we’re hoping to raise more much-needed money for BBC Children in Need,’ said Matt Baker
‘We have a truly inspiring group taking on the challenge, please do get behind them and do all you can to show your support, it really will help make a difference.’
