BBC Children in Need has announced £206,561 in new funding to Cornwall projects for their work with disadvantaged children and young people.

The news means that the charity is now supporting 19 projects in the county with more than £1.2million invested.

Recipients of funding include Penhaligon’s Friends, which has been awarded £104,325 to continue supporting their work with bereaved children and young people.

Over the next three years, the grant will help to fund a family services coordinator to facilitate activities and events that help children feel less alone in their grief and build their emotional resilience.

Aiming to boost children’s support network, the project’s activities include memory days, monthly family groups, one to one work, and peer support groups.

Elsewhere, Penzance-based West Cornwall Women’s Aid secured a three-year grant of £102,236 to help facilitate activities for children and young people living in a refuge.

This is the first funding round of the year, with additional funding to be allocated to projects across the UK throughout 2018.
