Colourful new banners created by schoolchildren in Looe have gone on display at the town’s museum.

Pupils had been invited to the Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol earlier this year to take part in the ‘Bright Sparks’ project.

After conversations with local fishermen, boatbuilders and sailors about the town’s maritime history, the youngsters designed the banners.

Textile artist Sue Field helped the pupils to produce the finished artwork.

East Looe Town Trust vice-chairman Phil Gibson said: ‘Visitor numbers have increased after much hard work by the museum management team. The bright new banners will help attract even more visitors. Working with our schools is very important for us, and we would be happy if they would like to build regular trips and projects into the curriculum.’
