It is thought a proposed £600 million energy park for a site east of Plymouth could be of benefit for plans to develop a huge business park at Broadmoor Farm, Saltash.

Caradon councillors noted, last week, details of the energy park proposed for Langage, six miles east of Plymouth and comprising 63 acres of land just off the A38 road. The planned gas and electricity power plant has the support of development agency SWERDA, whose influence could overcome a present embargo on gas-fired plants. Devon, South Hams and Plymouth councils are in favour of the project, and it has been suggested that Broadmoor Farm could benefit from the power supplies and lower energy costs.

Planning at Langage, by specialists Wainstones Power Limited, would see £400m spent on the gas-fired plant on an 18 acre site, with £200m proposed for a high pressure gas pipeline from Exeter plus an electricity sub station. This development would form the nucleus of the energy park and offer low cost power to adjoining areas, including Broadmoor.

Caradon councillors believed this to be an important inducement for inward investment to the Saltash site. The meeting agreed to write to the trade and industry minister, backing the Langage project as beneficial to South East Cornwall in terms of lower power costs. It was thought it could be a possible candidate for Option One funding.
