A Cornish charity is asking people to embrace the "Furlunteering" trend this month.
The Merlin MS Centre relies heavily on its hardworking volunteers to help provide therapy and support to people living with long-term neurological conditions.
The charity is currently looking for a volunteer to help increase its online presence.
Ellie May, Marketing and Communications Manager said: “Cornwall is full of creative individuals and we are looking for someone with social media and design skills who finds themselves with a few hours free and would like to help our charity grow, socially. The joy of this role is it can be done from home so travel is not necessary.
“Lockdown has been hard on everyone, spending more time alone and at home can impact on mental health. If you are looking for work or are on furlough this can make it even tougher.
"Volunteering some of your time to a community group or charity has many benefits both for the individual as well as the organisation who will be gaining from your skills,” she added.
Furlunteering is a new trend which has emerged during recent months and sees those currently on the Government Furlough Scheme offer some of their free time to volunteer for a charity or community group.
With over 80,000 workers in Cornwall currently on Furlough, not for profit organisations, many of which find themselves struggling financially, could benefit hugely from individuals willing to gift their time and share their skills.
All members of staff at the Merlin MS Centre are currently on flexible furlough, and the charity wants to highlight that now is more important than ever for people to come together and help their local communities.
If you have digital skills you could share or would like to find out about volunteering in another way please contact the charity on 01726 885530 or email the charity’s Volunteer Coordinator, [email protected]
