CHARITIES in the South West providing a lifeline for domestic abuse survivors are to receive Government funding.
Among them is the Cornwall Refuge Trust, which is being given £39,451.
The charity offers refuge accommodation for men, women and children from across the county who have escaped domestic abuse. It provides support for families, counselling and a 24 hour helpline. As well as immediate assistance it offers ongoing support, helping people to create or maintain a safer and happier future.
Both charities have observed an upturn in need for their services during the coronavirus lockdown.
Announcing £8.1m in funding nationally for charities supporting domestic abuse survivors, Homelessness Minister Luke Hall said: ’Home should be a place of sanctuary, but for domestic abuse survivors and their children, it is the opposite.
’Protecting survivors is an absolute priority during these unprecedented times and beyond. The funding will give charities the vital lifeline they need to help people across England escape abuse and rebuild their lives, away from the threat of violence.’
