SCENES for a new movie about the life of British landscape artist JMW Turner are to be filmed on the Rame Peninsula next month – and the production company wants to cast local extras.

Casting for the Mike Leigh film will take place at the Maker and Rame Institute in Kingsand on Saturday, June 22, between 1pm and 3pm. Filming on the peninsula will then be carried out over a period of around 10 days in July.

Assistant director Candy Marlowe said that these scenes focusing on the middle and later part of Turner's life will form an important part of the film to be released in 2014.

'We will be filming scenes showing a bustling and affluent 1830s seaside fishing community. We're looking for people over 16 of all ages, shapes and sizes, to reflect a real cross-section of society,' said Candy.

'We're keen to cast genuine fishermen and people who work around boats – salty seadogs, seafaring chaps and fisherwomen. We'd also love some characterful old ladies,' she added.
