THE anti-Aldi letter from Chris Burns (Cornish Times, 02.11.09) was very seasonal, with the old chestnuts of job losses and the death of the town centre. I think Aldi, Lidl etc are different types of supermarket rather than in the 'budget' sector where he places them in. Regarding housing, I feel I can assure him that Liskeard, and many other towns in Cornwall, will be repositories of masses of the new homes – and on greenfield sites too. Thanks to the Government's policy on immigration, wages in Cornwall will remain low and competition for affordable housing high. Thanks also to the success of the Dobwalls bypass campaigners, hundreds of acres of development land is being opened up, giving a green light to a new greater Liskeard-Dobwalls urban conurbation. The only remaining question is whether it should be called Liskdob or Doblisk?   Jeff Small Liskeard
