SALTASH Town Council's policy and resources committee has recommended to the main council to have laminated casing for the Celtic Cross model replica and for it to be placed in the foyer of Saltash Guildhall. For some time the model has been in the mayor's parlour. The project to have a 50ft-high Celtic Cross at Carkeel is still in the pipe line and the committee dealing with the project is still trying to raise funds for a feasibility study on the new site offered by Waitrose at Carkeel. The original plan was to have the cross, designed by Simon Thomas, at Carkeel for the millennium year. The cross could reach 62ft in height when finished and is to be made from local Cornish stone, steel and copper. Various attempts were made by the committee to obtain funding without success, so the project was put on hold but they are still hoping to get the money to pay for the cross.
