THE people who live in Downs View in West Looe are so delighted with the newly-laid surface on their road that they celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and champagne.
Residents in the area finally succeeded in coming together and raising the money to get the badly-pot-holed road repaired, with the help of their Cornwall cllr Edwina Hannaford.
The councillor for West Looe and Lansallos had chaired three residents' meetings which culminated in them agreeing to contribute to a joint fund to pay for the resurfacing of the private road.
Supported
The initiative was supported by Cornwall Council's localism team and neighbourhood services, with informal advice from Devon and Cornwall Police.
Resident Clark Badham said: 'We were beginning to think it would never happen, but thanks to the efforts of cllr Hannaford over the last year, who managed to bring us together to pay for the potholes to be filled and levelled out, a new tarmac surface was laid.
'The road was becoming intolerable and we were all getting worried that delivery drivers and essential services would stop driving up the hill to us.'
Cllr Hannaford said: 'I was happy to be able to help out and I was also grateful for the help of John Hickman who co-ordinated the residents.
'It just shows what can be achieved when people work together.'
