Cawsand boat and warship collide
A Cawsand fishing trawler collided with an Italian warship last Thursday morning in Plymouth Sound.
The 10-metre wooden trawler, the Katie Suzanne, was heading towards the Eddystone when it was in collision with the ITS Sibilla Minerva class Corvette just north of the Breakwater.
Taking in water, it was escorted to Mashfords Boatyard at Cremyll by Plymouth's pilot boat Mallard and surveyors are examining the damage. Boat owner Sam Jago, aged 31, who acquired the boat two years ago, fears that it may be out of action for six weeks.
Neither he nor his crew member Michael Tack from Torpoint were injured and the Italian ship was not damaged. Ministry of Defence police have launched an investigation into the incident.
