Liskeard Lions Club has received £300 from a community fund to help it replace a stolen van. The club approached Liskeard Town Forum to ask for a donation to help them raise money to replace their catering caravan. The van was taken from Looe during August and because it was not insured the charity has had to replace it itself. So far Liskeard Lions have received £11,090 in donations and another £500 raised by events. The money will be used to replace the stolen van, carry out any modifications required and paint it in Lions colours. The old van was used by the Lions to provide a food outlet for town and district events such as the St Matthew's Fair. Liskeard Town Forum also gave £150 to Liskeard and Area Monday Club, and the Greenbank Youth Development Project. The Greenbank Youth Development Project, which meets at the Greenbank Christian Centre in Liskeard, requested help with funding towards the purchase of lighting equipment. This was needed to help them in music and drama performance work. The centre said this would benefit the community by higher self-esteem, improving the children's work and preventing youth crime. The Liskeard and Area Monday Club meets once a week at the Echo Centre in Liskeard and is for adults with learning difficulties. It requested the money to buy sweatshirts for members and to purchase a shed for storage of club resources. The club, which is a registered charity and has more than 30 members, would also like to speak to any of the town's businesses which might be able to help with a donation.
