CAROLINE Powell leapt into action on February 29 and proposed to her boyfriend using a supermarket's public address system.
Caroline, 42, took advantage of the leap year tradition of a woman proposing marriage to pop the question to Martin Leevey, 40, at Sainsbury's in Torpoint on Wednesday.
The romantic supermarket worker waited until Martin entered the store before turning on the public address system and announcing to everyone: 'This is a special announcement for Martin Leevey. You know I love you so much and you know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?'
Kiss
Everyone in the store, colleagues and shoppers, cheered and clapped as Martin walked up to Caroline and said, 'Of course I will,' before sealing his decision with a kiss!
Colleagues presented Caroline with a bouquet as they were joined by her 17-year-old daughter Anna. The couple met online almost 12 months ago, Martin coming from East Sussex.
Love blossomed over the internet and Martin gave up his job as a paramedic and moved to Cornwall to be with Caroline. She said: 'He is a really special guy to me. He is lovely and always makes me smile.'
Martin said of the proposal: 'I didn't think that she would have had the nerve, but she is special.'
The couple would like to get married abroad within the next couple of years. Store manager John Rumbold said: 'I think it was great to have this proposal shared with colleagues and our shoppers. I am proud of all our staff in store and that one of them wanted to propose in such a way.'
