Contrary to the article in last week's Cornish Times (February 25) concerning changes in councillor's allowances, Caradon District council has decided that for 2000/01 the present system of attendance allowance should be continued and increased by two per cent in line with inflation.

Also, that for 2000/01, the chairman's and vice-chairman's allowance in respect of their ceremonial duties be increased by the current rate of inflation.

There will be a further report made to a future council meeting on the establishment of an independent review of member's allowances and member support issues relating to the new political management structure.
