ORGANISERS of plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World war have launched a search for descendants of soldiers who gave their lives in the conflict.

Liskeard Royal British Legion will commemorate the anniversary of the end of the First World War with a Drumhead Service to be held in Westbourne Gardens on Sunday, July 1 at 2pm.

The event will be marked by the laying of 137 crosses, each one etched with the name of those who gave their lives who were associated with Liskeard.

Youth organisations in the town will be laying the crosses - hopefully alongside descendants of the men who fell.

Liskeard RBL’s new secretary, Paul Blackwell, said: ‘If any living descendants of those whose names are carved on the War Memorial in Castle Park, wish to lay the cross with their relative’s name on, please get in touch with the RBL Liskeard.

‘There will be no formal parade or marching, an all-faiths service is being organised and will take approximately 45 minutes.

‘The event is open to all and it is hoped for a good turnout from all of the community.’

If you would like to take part in the event, please email your details to [email protected] and we’ll collate information for the Legion.
