Division One West Callington Town 0 Dobwalls 3 CALLINGTON may be rooted to the bottom of the league after this latest defeat, but manager Andy Hunt may at last be able to see a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Although Town are still pointless after four games, their new-look young squad, thrown together after virtually all of last season's team departed, did at least keep a clean sheet until half-time. 'I thought we played very well in the first half, but unfortunately, a lack of concentration and experience gave Dobwalls two quick goals after the break and that killed the match off,' explained Hunt. Improving concentration can be cured fairly quickly on the training ground, but experience can only be gained by either adding to the playing staff or, more probably, in Callington's case, persevering until, as the saying goes, boys become men. The first half of the game was not the most exciting fare ever offered as both sides failed to break down each other's defences. A minute into the second period, Steve Tapper headed Dobwalls into the lead, and four minutes later, he doubled his side's advantage with a shot. Callington conceded another goal on the hour, Spencer Wilson netting, and although they battled hard, with debutant Lee Murphy showing up well, that effectively was that. 'To be fair, Dobwalls deserved to win overall,' admitted Hunt, though leaving his side in no doubt of their performance after the break and the reasons for their downfall. 'I kept the players in the dressing room for 20 minutes after the game and told them straight that they had no passion, pride, or will to win,' he explained. Dobwalls manager Mike Beckett was naturally much happier with his side. 'It was a struggle in the first half but I was pleased the lads kept their discipline and played the way we told them to. 'It was one of those games where you had to dig in and, after I told them at half-time to go up a gear, they showed a great attitude to do so by scoring two quick goals,' said Beckett.
