The Cornwall Under 19's will be captained this year by Ben Price of Truro. Price, who averaged 50.92 in County Division 1 last year, along with Simon James (Grampound Road), will miss the first three Under 19 games against the Cornish Crusaders on 15th June at St. Buryan, an East Cornwall XI at Liskeard on 23rd June and a West Cornwall XI at Beacon on 30th June because of their studies.
Vice-Captain Andrew Lavender (Hayle), will lead the team in Price's absence and he will be joined by other members of the 1999 squad including James Carter (St. Blazey), Malcolm Hooper (Grampound Road), Oliver Shilston (Perranarworthal), Matt Ellison (St. Austell) and Bradley Bury (Helston).
Callington left arm seamer Jim Shorten is included in the party while Oliver Hucker (St. Austell), Rob Harrison (Newquay), Neil Curnow (St. Just), Marc Sweeney (Camborne), Kevin Hall (St. Just), Mark Waters (Rosudgeon) and Gareth Davis (Perranarworthal) are promoted from last year's Under 17 side.
Cornwall's ECB two day County Championship opponents are Dorset at Truro July 13 / 14, Berkshire at Reading July 17 /18, Wiltshire at Callington Aug 1 / 2 and Devon at United Services, Plymouth Aug 8 / 9.
Manager Tim Hyslop and his Assistant Dickie Collins hope to recruit Patrick Ellis (Truro), Martin Pearce (Grampound Road) and spinner Ben Smeeth (Werrington) who will all be key members of this year's Under 17 squad.
On 10th July Werrington play hosts to Cornwall's practice fixture against a South Western Australia Under 19 XI when their skills will be severely tested.
While the squad is in it's formative stages both Hyslop and Collins will be monitoring all the players progress to see how they are performing. Club Secretaries and any players are asked to nominate any other promising youngsters not already mentioned to either Hyslop (01503 272661) or Collins (01579 345383). To qualify for the Under 19's players needed to be aged 19 or under on 1st September 1999.
The Under 17's have also appointed their captain for their County Championship campaign. Ben Smeeth of Werrington will skipper the team with Patrick Ellis (Truro) his deputy.
